When we designed the VELPEPTIDE™ Signature Collection, we did not start with ten products and work backwards. We started with the skin’s biology — the sequence of events that happens at the cellular level from the moment you cleanse to the moment you sleep — and built a product for each critical step. The result is a routine where every product amplifies the one before it, and nothing is redundant.
This article explains the science behind each step: why it exists, what the active ingredients are doing at the molecular level, and how it sets up the next step for maximum efficacy. It is the most honest explanation of our formulation philosophy we have ever published.
Before any active ingredient can work, the skin must be in a state of readiness: clean, pH-balanced, and with an intact but permeable barrier. The first two steps of the VELPEPTIDE™ ritual are entirely dedicated to achieving this state. Most skincare routines skip this preparation entirely — and then wonder why their actives do not perform.
A peptide applied to unprepared skin is like a key without a lock. The biology is there, but the door is closed.
Most cleansers are formulated to remove. VELVET CLEANSE™ is formulated to remove and begin. The dual-phase cleansing oil uses Polysorbate 80 to emulsify makeup, SPF, and sebum — but the moment it contacts water, it transforms into a milky rinse that leaves Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 (Syn®-Coll) and Panthenol on the skin surface. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 activates TGF-β, which upregulates collagen I and IV synthesis in the dermis. This means the collagen stimulation cycle begins at the cleansing step — not after it. Panthenol (Vitamin B5) immediately begins barrier hydration, reducing transepidermal water loss before the toner is even applied.
The skin’s acid mantle is the gateway through which every subsequent active must pass. At its natural pH of 4.5–5.5, the skin’s peptide receptors are most accessible and the lipid bilayers of the stratum corneum are most permeable. VELVET TONE™ restores this optimal state within 60 seconds of application. Allantoin soothes any micro-inflammation from cleansing. Niacinamide begins its dual action: inhibiting melanosome transfer (reducing pigmentation) and stimulating ceramide synthesis. Argireline® at 3% begins the SNARE complex inhibition that will be amplified by every subsequent neurotransmitter-inhibiting peptide in the routine.
With the skin now at optimal pH and the barrier primed, VELVET GLOW™ delivers its brightening complex to a maximally receptive surface. Brightenyl™ (Diglucosyl Gallic Acid) inhibits the transcription of tyrosinase — the rate-limiting enzyme in melanin synthesis — by downregulating MITF at the gene level. This is fundamentally different from traditional brightening agents like kojic acid, which inhibit tyrosinase activity after it has already been produced. Brightenyl™ prevents the enzyme from being made in the first place. Mn-Tripeptide-1 delivers manganese ions to activate Mn-SOD, the skin’s primary antioxidant enzyme in the mitochondria, neutralising UV-induced reactive oxygen species before they can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
VELVET FIRM™ is the structural core of the routine. Matrixyl 3000® works through two complementary pathways: Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen I, III, and IV; Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 simultaneously inhibits IL-6, the pro-inflammatory cytokine that activates the matrix metalloproteinases that break down existing collagen. More collagen produced. Less collagen destroyed. Decorinyl™ then organises the newly synthesised collagen fibrils into uniform, parallel bundles — because disorganised collagen does not produce the optical smoothness of well-structured collagen. Snap-8™ extends the SNARE complex inhibition begun by Argireline® in the toner, reducing expression line depth by up to 63% in clinical trials.
VELVET LONGEVITY™ targets the three biological mechanisms that conventional anti-aging peptides do not address: nuclear envelope degradation, epidermal stem cell depletion, and sirtuin pathway decline. Progeline™ (Lucas Meyer/IFF) inhibits the production of progerin — the truncated lamin A protein that accumulates in fibroblast nuclei and causes the structural collapse of the nuclear envelope. In clinical studies, Progeline™ reduced the appearance of sagging by 30% in 56 days. Reproage™ (Givaudan) activates the epidermal stem cell self-renewal pathway, restoring the basal layer’s capacity to generate new keratinocytes — the mechanism that slows with age and causes the thinning and translucency of mature skin. Epigen 32 (Lipotec) activates SIRT1 and SIRT6 longevity genes, which regulate DNA repair, cellular metabolism, and the inflammatory response. Used 3–4 evenings per week as a PM intensive after VELVET FIRM™, it addresses the layer of aging that no other product in the routine reaches.
The skin around the eye is 40% thinner than facial skin and is subject to approximately 10,000 blinks per day. VELVET LIFT™ uses three peptides that address the three distinct mechanisms of periorbital aging. Eyeseryl® inhibits ACE to reduce glycation-induced periorbital oedema — the mechanism behind under-eye puffiness. Leuphasyl® mimics endogenous enkephalins to reduce neuronal activity in the orbicularis oculi muscle via a different receptor pathway than Argireline®, providing a synergistic relaxation effect. Snap-8™ provides the third neurotransmitter inhibition pathway, completing a triple-mechanism approach to crow’s feet that has no equivalent in the market.
The neck and décolleté are the most reliable indicators of biological age — yet absent from almost every skincare routine. Neck skin has fewer fibroblasts per unit area, a thinner dermis, and is subject to constant mechanical stress. GHK-Cu activates over 4,000 repair genes in the dermis. Eyeseryl® addresses the vascular permeability that causes horizontal neck banding. Matrixyl Synthe’6® simultaneously stimulates six major extracellular matrix proteins for comprehensive structural renewal of the neck’s depleted matrix.
UV radiation is responsible for approximately 80% of visible facial aging. Every peptide in this routine is working to rebuild what UV has destroyed — but without daily SPF, that work is being undone faster than it can be done. VELVET VEIL™ is a mineral-chemical hybrid SPF 50 PA++++ fluid providing broad-spectrum UVA, UVB, and blue light protection while delivering Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 for daytime collagen stimulation and Ceramide NP to reinforce the barrier. The PA++++ rating is critical: UVA penetrates glass, clouds, and most SPF products, and is the primary driver of collagen degradation and hyperpigmentation.
Used 2–3 evenings per week, VELVET BOOST™ delivers Matrixyl Synthe’6® at 4% (double the standard dose), Leuphasyl® at 3%, and GHK-Cu at 4%. The rationale for alternating evenings is biological: fibroblast collagen synthesis has a natural cycle. Stimulation triggers production, but the fibroblast then requires a recovery period before it can respond to the next stimulus. Three evenings per week of VELVET BOOST™ produces measurably better outcomes than seven evenings of a lower-concentration formula.
Between 11 PM and 4 AM, cell division in the epidermis peaks, DNA repair enzymes are most active, and the skin’s permeability to actives is at its highest. VELVET RENEW™ works in concert with this biological rhythm. Matrixyl Synthe’6® provides the collagen stimulation signal that the skin’s nocturnal fibroblasts are primed to receive. Syn®-Ake reduces the facial muscle contractions that occur during sleep and cause sleep wrinkles. GHK-Cu activates antioxidant gene pathways that neutralise the oxidative stress accumulated during the day. The sleeping mask format creates an occlusive microenvironment that increases skin temperature by approximately 0.5°C, enhancing peptide penetration by 30–40%.
Lip skin has no sebaceous glands, no melanin for UV protection, and a stratum corneum only 3–5 cell layers thick. It loses volume through two mechanisms: collagen depletion in the vermilion border and repeated orbicularis oris muscle contraction. Volulip™ stimulates hyaluronic acid and collagen synthesis specifically in the vermilion border for genuine volumisation. Syn®-Ake relaxes the orbicularis oris muscle to reduce contraction-driven vertical lines. The ceramide-shea butter base creates a 12-hour occlusive seal that prevents the transepidermal water loss that makes lips appear thin and creased.
The ritual is not eleven products. It is one continuous biological conversation with your skin — each step speaking the language the next step needs to hear.
The sequence of the VELPEPTIDE™ ritual is not arbitrary. Each step creates the conditions for the next to work at maximum efficacy. The cleanse restores the pH that the toner then optimises. The toner's Argireline® begins the neurotransmitter inhibition that the serum's Snap-8™ amplifies and the eye cream's Leuphasyl® extends. The collagen stimulation begun by VELVET FIRM™ is reinforced by VELVET NECK™ and completed by VELVET RENEW™ during sleep. The SPF in VELVET VEIL™ protects the collagen that every other product is working to build. Remove any step, and the chain is broken. This is the Peptide Synergy Architecture™ — not a marketing phrase, but a formulation principle that took three years and over 200 clinical trials to develop.
