I have a complicated relationship with the clean beauty movement. On one hand, it has done genuinely important work: eliminating formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, reducing the use of endocrine disruptors, and forcing brands to be more transparent about their ingredient lists. On the other hand, it has created a culture of ingredient fear that is, in many cases, not supported by any credible scientific evidence.
Arsenic is natural. So is botulinum toxin. Cyanide is found in apple seeds. The idea that 'natural' is inherently safe and 'synthetic' is inherently dangerous is not a scientific position — it is a marketing position. What matters is not the origin of an ingredient but its safety profile, its concentration, and its interaction with other ingredients.
The dose makes the poison. This is the first principle of toxicology, established by Paracelsus in the 16th century. It has not changed.
We are not a 'clean beauty' brand in the marketing sense of that phrase. We are a science-first brand. Every ingredient in every VELPEPTIDE™ formula is included because it has a demonstrated function at its specific concentration. Every ingredient has been evaluated for safety by our formulation team. We do not exclude ingredients because they sound scary. We exclude them if the evidence shows they are harmful.
The future of skincare is not clean beauty or synthetic chemistry. It is evidence-based formulation — where every ingredient earns its place in the formula through clinical data, not marketing narrative. That is the standard we hold ourselves to at VELPEPTIDE™.
